Wheat City Tennis Club Etiquette:
1. Keep courts tidy and safe
• Do not damage the court surface. Avoid chewing gum, sticky spills, or other foreign substances
• Wear non-marking shoes at all times
• Dispose of all garbage properly, including ball cans, metal lids, balls, cups, and bottles
• Keep all personal items (racquets, bags, drinks, clothing) off the playing area and out of walkways
• If a ball from another court enters your court, any player may call a let immediately
• Always close the gate when entering or leaving the courts
2. Respect players on your court and adjacent courts
• Keep noise to a minimum near active courts
• Do not cross behind a court during a point
• When crossing between courts, wait until play stops and move quickly
• Spectators must not call lines, applaud errors, or distract players
• Avoid loud noises such as excessive grunting or playing music
3. Do not try to win the warmup
• Warm up cooperatively with your opponent
• Hit balls directly to your partner at a moderate pace
• Practice a full range of shots including forehand, backhand, volleys, and overheads
4. Be considerate when retrieving or returning balls
• Wait for a break in play before retrieving a ball from another court
• Politely ask for balls to be returned when safe to do so
• If a ball creates a safety concern, alert players immediately
• Return balls to the back of the court at an appropriate time
• If a ball interferes with play, call a let and replay the point
5. Make accurate and fair line calls
• Call all shots on your side of the court clearly and promptly
• Any part of the ball touching the line is considered in
• A ball that is close is considered in unless you are certain it is out
• When in doubt, give the benefit of the doubt to your opponent
• Players may agree to replay a point if there is uncertainty
• In doubles, if partners disagree, the ball is considered good
• Call against yourself if you clearly see your shot out, except on a first serve
